Lodge Como No. 738

After a number of informal meetings between Wor. Bro. Aub Mitchell and Bros. Scott, Ingham and Maitland, a meeting was called at the residence of Bro. Ingham in October, 1947, for the purpose of forming a lodge called Como. Those attending were Wor. Bro. Mitchell and Bros. Ingham, Lawrence, Maitland, Williams, Scott and Martin. This meeting arranged all preliminary work and a further meeting was called for 18th November, 1947.

The meeting was held in the Como School of Arts Hall, and was attend3ed by 40 Masonic brethren who were desirous of joining this new lodge. Foundation fees were paid and the officers elected.

Lodge Sutherland was the sponsor lodge and the Charter was granted by Grand Lodge.

The lodge was consecrated on 8th April, 1948, by the Deputy Grand Master, Right Wor. Bro. frank McDowell, and the foundation Master was Wor. Bro. Aub Mitchello, S.W. Wor. Bro. Harry Allen and J.W. Bro. Sid Maitland. There were 33 petitioning members.

At the conclusion of the Consecration and Installation ceremonies the first candidate, Mr John Dick was read out and the progress of the lodge had commenced.

At the first meeting after the Consecration, Bro. Reynolds, who been invested as a Steward, resigned, and Bro. Eddie Martin was elected in his stead. Another seven affiliates and one candidate for Initiation were also read out at this meeting.

Honour came to the lodge in 1954, when Wor. Bro. Harry Allen, the foundation Senior Warden was appointed D.G.I.W.

In 1972 Lodge Como had a membership of 156.
